Customer Interview: David Nash, Homeowner (Sutherland Shire, NSW)
System Installed: 15 x Longi 440W Panels | Hinen 5W Inverter | Hinen B5000 battery
You started off with solar panels. What made you look into solar?
Our bills were good, about $300 per quarter, then $400 and $750. And I thought, we’re heading to $1,000. We’ve got to do something. We still had a family of five here. And we thought, well, let’s give this a shake. And off we went. And the whole process, right through install, was wonderful. And after full install, we dropped $500 to $250. And I was just amazed.
Fast forward, what made you add a solar battery to your system?
Summer is brilliant with solar, but in the winter months, it’s not quite the same. And I was just frittering away energy. I was just producing this stuff and giving it away for nothing. We had that occasion that uh I had a large bill. Think just happened to call. They’re very proactive. They just dive straight in. Give us your bills. Let’s have a look with let the experts have a go at it. And then I was introduced to Dave Howard and we went through the pros and cons of having a battery. And it’s it’s a game changer. Absolute game changer. I now watch what I’m doing and watch what’s being produced. I can see where it’s going to. And having control is the main part of having a battery.
What impact have you seen on your energy bills since getting solar and battery?
We now have ducted air conditioning. We now have a pool heater. And we could never have this without think and without solar. It’s just amazing. We’re part of a program called a Virtual Power Plant. We’re receiving payment now for what we export.
We had solar. We knew that we were saving. When we got the battery, the savings increased $5 a day, $450 a quarter. That’s just amazing. Without the battery, without solar, I’m looking at $1,200 a quarter. And it’s just unsustainable.
How was your experience throughout the process with Think Renewable?
One person looked after me and has just handled me all the way through. It’s one of the wonderful things about Think is that they’ve got the backup across all the technology. So if I’ve got a problem, I know who to call, who to speak to, and it’s just fabulous. Can’t match it.
What would you say to someone considering solar and battery?
I prefer Think because I’m dealing with local people. Prices are up, but our bills are down. Year on year, we’re saving money. We’re getting paid for our excess production. And it’s just, what could be better? And the environment says, “Thanks.”
